Kummerspeck will be a museum of comfort eating, commemorating the food acts that we commit to comfort ourselves during life’s major and minor tragedies.
German: Composed of Kummer (Grief) and Speck (Bacon)
Excess weight gained due to emotional overeating.
Kummerspeck is an installation inspired by the German word after which it is named. When interviewing people about their eating throughout the research for Chewing The Fat, she soon cam to see food less as a source of nourishment, and more as a complex sequence of coping mechanisms, specific moments that marked out our journey through life.
